MIRA!

NEW FESTIVAL IN BARCELONA

Electronic music and visual electronics. The merger of these two disciplines is the main feature of MIRA!, A festival that has based its proposal to offer shows performed by artists that came from the different electronic and audiovisual trends. Open to all audiences, MIRA! wants to be the showcase in which different artists and groups can provide a sample of the latest trends in audiovisual performances. Framed in a space as unique and significant as the former industrial area of Fabra i Coats, MIRA! is a cultural event with the participation of both national and international artists, but always with a focus on the most emerging local scene.

The MIRA! not only wants to make a point of meeting, exchange and dissemination of new visual arts, but wants to become the premier event of its kind in Barcelona for a definitive standardization of this kind of shows.

What sets the MIRA! other festivals is the will to weave visual and musical elements to transform them into an artistic dialogue that produces new forms of expression derived from the fusion of electronic music and visual electronics. The MIRA! aims to break the stigma that put the image as a simple addition of a musical performance to become the center of the show. Not just about equal the weight of the two discilpinas, it is ultimately expand the sensory capabilities of the spectators.

Conference

Embodied Fantasies, a concept central to art history, theory and practice is concurrently a topic debated in the fields of the neuro-and-cognitive sciences, philosophy and phenomenology. This theme will be addressed in a transdisciplinary conference hosting scholars and artists from the fields of architecture, art history, visual art, history of science and psychology among others. Discussions will focus on concepts of embodiment as they relate to sexuality, aesthetics, epistemology, perception and fantasy itself. Approaches to the role of fantasies will be viewed beyond traditional conceptions to include complex thinking processes, subjectivity, and the inter-subjective. Prominent attention will be paid to fantasies and images as a form of knowledge production.

Speakers include: Gabriele Brandstetter (Freie Universität, Berlin), Horst Bredekamp (Humboldt-Universität, Berlin), Mark Dery (Cultural Critic), Frank Gillette (SVA), Dan Hutto (University of Hertfordshire, UK), Mitchell Joachim (TerreformONE), Arthur I. Miller (University of London, UK), Alva Noe (University of California and CUNY), Shelley Rice (NYU), McKenzie Wark (The New School), among others.

The split between the machine and the viewer
has generated a new idea about the concept of human movement.
In the XX century machines were our slaves, in the XXI century
we are the slaves, but Tomas Tammemets shows us how the particles collide with the human being
in the middle of the chaos of incompressible post-capitalist society.
